Just Thinking.........Again

Remember the mountaintop?

Wednesday, January 28, 2009
John 12:36
While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light

We've all stood outside on one of those first days of Spring.  We've closed our eyes, looked toward the sun and felt the warmth.  We are thankful the cold winter is over.  We smell the mown grass, hear the birds and think how incredible life is.  Sometimes we share these moments with someone we love.  We think, this must be what heaven is like.  As we stand in the light and warmth, it would fine with us if this moment went on forever.

We've all had similar times with God.  We stood in His warmth and felt His presence.  He becomes so very real and our heart melts.  We stand still in His presence, we are afraid to move for fear this feeling  may fade away as if it were a radio station.  The stillness of our heart is pure worship.  We don't want the moment to end, and if it went on forever, that would be just fine.  And the hope that lies within us says, this is just a small taste of what heaven will be like.

Our memories are short though.  When the rainy days come and it is grey and dreary we quickly forget the warmth of the sun.  We let go of that memory of the spring day and can't even imagine what that warm breeze would feel like.  We wonder will the rain ever stop, will the sun will ever shine again?

We do the same with God.  We forget those moments where we stood in his presence.  How is that possible?  We know it was special, it was God.  It was incredible.  We have the knowledge of the memory but the warmth that gripped our heart is gone.  When we are in the valley, we forget what the mountaintop looked like.  We spend all our time in grief about being in the valley instead of glorifying when we stood on the mountain.

We know we'll stand in His presences again as we know the sun will shine again.  We must learn to live the mountaintop experience when we are in the valley.  The result will be a brighter sun, a warmer breeze, a closer walk with God on any day, in any valley, no matter what.

Just thinking about Spring.
