Just Thinking.........Again

Removing the precious from the vile.

Jeremiah 15:19

The prophet Jeremiah became brokenhearted over the condition of his nation and the city of Jerusalem as they were judged by God.  He was down in His spirit and feeling a little sorry for himself.  He thought since he had done all that God told him, he deserved better treatment than to see things go bad.  God says this to him:

Therefore thus says the LORD:
      "If you return,
      Then I will bring you back;
      You shall stand before Me;
      If you take out the precious from the vile,
      You shall be as My mouth.
      Let them return to you,
      But you must not return to them.

Jeremiah was called to return to the Lord.  He needed to get his eyes off the world and quit looking back and look up instead.  When he did this the Lord would bring him back and Jeremiah would stand before Him.  Jeremiah could once again be God's prophet if he removed the precious from the vile.  Removing the precious from the vile is a separation or extraction process.  It is removing the pure metal from the dross.  When he once again became God's mouthpiece, then the sinners could return to him and hear God's word but he was not to return to them.

We, too, must remove the precious from the vile.  Whether it is our worldview, our personal walk, in our churches, thought life, family or time in prayer, we must set the precious and holy in a high place not to be mingled with the vile of the world but to be available for the world to see that it is holy.  It's not out of reach, but it is set apart in a special category, not for common use and is to remain in a class all its own.

There are probably a hundred analogies that come to mind here.  But I'll leave it up to you to apply it to your life.  I know have no problem applying it to mine.  How many times do we end up focussing on ourselves and complain about our circumstances?  God doesn't owe us an explanation.  We can't see that we've covered the precious up and comingled it with the vile.  We must return to God and He will bring us back - that's first.  Then we will stand before Him.  That's a frightening thought!!  This feels like a time of repentance and seeking forgiveness.  Maybe this should end up being face down time.  Then the precious can be removed from the vile.  This is an act of grace by a loving God to find value in our lives and allow us to be associated with Him.
