1 Chronicles 27:1-15

The Chronicler now organizes the military. This is an interesting addition to the organization of the temple. The temple was the center of their social and religious structure; it may well follow to include the military as a means of protecting what they held dear. The military was divided into twelve divisions of 24,000 men rotating into active duty on a monthly basis. The leaders of these divisions were the who's who among David's mighty men.

 

1 Chronicles 27:16-24

There were officers over the tribes of Israel. There are twelve listed in this section although Asher and Gad are missing. Aaron is listed separately from the Levites and both halves of Manasseh are listed.

 

1 Chronicles 27:25-34

The remainder of the chapter is an assortment of individuals assignments in the kingdom. Each of these was important in the kingdom; from the keepers of the fields and flocks to the companion and advisor to the king.
